Initially trained
in Belfast as a mechanical engineer, I then left a good job in London with
AFN Ltd. (makers of Frazer Nash Cars) to work with Bell & McCandless in
1951, on the 4-wheel drive ‘Mule’ project funded by Harry Ferguson.
Although this exciting venture was short-lived, my friendship with
Rex was to endure, on and off, for some forty years. Writing was taken
up, mainly as a hobby in 1992 after a lifetime in the aircraft industry but
that one year with Rex McCandless was more memorable than any of my
subsequent 40 years in engineering. |
